No Hard Days

There’s no such thing as a hard day.

Wait…..what?!

If a day happens, how do you know if it’s a “good” day or a “bad” day? That determination is only made when a brain and a thought about it is added to the mix.

Here’s what I mean: Days just are what they are. Events, conversations, experiences in the day happen or don’t happen. When you add a brain to it that thinks “this was a hard day,” that’s what creates the hard day. The hard day is not made by the day, it’s made by the thought about the day.

This is so relevant to those times when we don’t achieve what we set out to at a race. Heck, I experienced this first hand just last weekend at IM 70.3 CdA! I had a swim PR, but my bike + run combo left much to be desired. I’ve raced the bike + run so much faster on that course. I finished the race 25 minutes slower than my goal time. I had a hard day.

Or did I?

When we decide to tell the story of a hard day then we get caught up in it. When we realize the day itself is neutral and it’s just our thought about the day that makes it hard, we take our power back.

Do you use the idea of hard days to keep you stuck in inaction, not moving forward in your training, not committing to big hairy audacious goals?

If you can approach your life that there’s no such thing as a hard day (which is always an option!), how might your perspective, actions, reactions change?

There’s no such thing as a hard day. There’s just your thoughts about it.

What will you choose?
